GOOD FRIDAY/BLACK SATURDAY REFLECTION: ONE LAST TIME

During the Maundy Thursday celebration of our community, the Ligaya ng Panginoon, the Music Ministry sang, for the very first time in recent years, the song Tantum Ergo. This happens to be my father’s favorite lullaby song to his grandchildren. The moment I heard the song last night, my eyes moistened a bit. Oh what I would give to do things with my father again, one last time.

To shoot hoops with him again…
To watch PBA with him again…
To eat pizza with him again…
To jog with him again…
To drive him around town again…
To ride a plane with him again…

Yes, one last time.

I think that was the same wish the apostles had in their hearts after the crucifixion. Oh what they would give to do things again with Jesus…one last time.

To hear him preach…
To see him heal…
To dine with him…
To laugh with him…

How about you? What events in your life would you want to re-do or undo if given the chance? What situations would you like to replay for a chance to do or make things right? What instances would you like to go through again for an opportunity to relish and celebrate?

We all have “one last times” in our lives. But the good news is this: We will all get that “one last time”. One day, in heaven, we will. Where there is no pain, or sorrow or grief. When we can all be what we want to be. When our “one last times” become “forever”.

Because of the cross. Because of the empty tomb. Because of Jesus.

We know that our lives won’t end in regrets but in unstoppable victory.

P.S. By the way, I sang Tantum Ergo with much gusto the other night. And why not? I need to prepare myself for a chance to sing duet with my Papang one day…one last time.
